Hryvnias (banknotes) Kopiykas (coins) Currency of Ukraine
In accordance with the Ukrainian President Decree and Articles 99 and 102 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a monetary reform was implemented in Ukraine on September 2-16, 1996. The national currency Hryvnia and its one hundredth part - kopiyka was put into circulation. Lettered code - UAH, numeric code - 980, abbreviated name - Hrn. Issuing institution is the National Bank of Ukraine. There are in circulation: Banknotes of the following denomination: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Hryvnias. Change Coins of the denomination: 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 kopiykas. One hryvnia is 100 kopiykas. On the front side of the banknote there are portraits of outstanding public figures in the sphere of history and literature of Ukraine, the inscription УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) or УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) and НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine), and the banknote face value in words and numerals. Ornaments and rosettes printed in multicoloured printing complete the design. Portraits, inscriptions and individual decorative elements are printed in relief printing. On the back side of banknotes there is a depiction of historical and architectural monuments of Ukraine. Above there is the inscription НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine). The banknote face value is printed in words and there is the numerical indication of the denomination in the four corners of the banknote. Below there is the banknote issue year.
